At our arrival, you’ll take a wonderful boat ride through the mangroves. A variety of pelicans, seagulls, albatross, ducks and other aviary species call this place home after long flights along the eastern coast, but what Celestun is known for across the world are the pink flamingos that habituate it.
Celestun’s flamingo population, more than any other in the world, shows an intense pink feather coloring due to a very high concentration of carotene in the water. Watch the spectacle they create as they fly just over their natural breeding ground.
After you watch these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, you’ll be able to ‘beat the heat’ by taking a dip in the sweet, fresh-water coming up from the "Ojos de agua,” waterholes that bring fresh water into the salty sea. These are hidden amongst the natural tunnels the estuary’s mangroves create.
Nothing surpasses a trip to see beautiful animals in a natural habitat as beautiful as Celestun and finishing with a journey down the estuary to its spectacular rendezvous with the sea.
At the end of your trip, you’ll visit the heart of the town of Celestun, a beach of unequalled beauty and the place where an exquisite lunch will be waiting for you before we head back to Merida.
